We believe in the limitless potential of young people. Through immersive, experience-based programs rooted in cultural pride and community, we forge the leaders of tomorrow—today.
"Every young person deserves the resources and support to realize their full potential — regardless of their background."
ACYDS was born from a recognition that Afro-Canadian youth face unique systemic barriers — in education, employment, and social mobility. We bridge those gaps through culturally grounded programming, mentorship, and direct community support. We don't just talk about change; we build the scaffolding for it.
We believe in young people’s power to drive positive change.
Built on the 5 C’s — Competence, Confidence, Connection, Character, and Caring — we help youth grow into responsible, compassionate, capable adults. These five lead to a sixth: Contribution, where youth give back to their communities.Through hands-on, experience-based programs created with educators and industry experts, we help students discover their strengths, build lasting confidence, develop practical skills, and find clarity to shape their future and destiny
Grounded in the evidence-based PYD model developed by Lerner et al., these six pillars guide every program, interaction, and outcome we pursue.
Developing practical skills and a positive perception of one's ability to take meaningful action in academic, social, and vocational domains.
Cultivating an internal sense of overall positive self-worth, self-efficacy, and a strong belief in one's ability to shape their own future.
Fostering positive bonds with family, peers, schools, and community institutions that create belonging and shared responsibility.
Building respect for societal and cultural rules, a strong sense of right and wrong, and integrity that anchors every decision and action.
Nurturing sympathy, empathy, and a genuine sense of responsibility for the wellbeing of others—locally and globally.
The natural outcome of all five: youth who actively give back, shape their communities, lift others up, and write their own definition of legacy.
Co-designed with educators, industry leaders, and youth themselves — because the best programs start with listening.
A dedicated, culturally safe space for Afro-Canadian youth to explore identity, build resilience, and create pathways out of cycles of poverty and systemic disadvantage. Rooted in community and evidence-based practice.

"ACYDS didn't just help me get a job — they helped me understand who I am and what I'm capable of. I walked into my first interview with genuine confidence for the first time in my life."
"For the first time I was in a room with people who looked like me, who understood my experience without needing me to explain it. That feeling changed everything about how I see myself."
"I came in as a quiet kid who thought leadership was for other people. I left as someone who runs a student advocacy group. The facilitators saw something in me I couldn't see myself."
Our staff and leadership team are community members, educators, and advocates who share a deep personal connection to the work we do every day.
